Problem

Seagram’s Captain Morgan rum is named after the 17th-century Welsh privateer of the Caribbean, Sir Henry Morgan. For this competition I was challenged with transforming a Chrysler PT cruiser into a moving billboard for the brand.

Approach

I visited a local car dealership to photograph a black PT Cruiser and then went to work in Adobe Photoshop transforming it into a pirate ship. The majority of the photo manipulation involved creating precise masks of the panels of the vehicle and rendering a wood-grain texture that matched the lighting.

Solution

The final solution is a modern-day pirate ship complete with skull and crossbones, cannons, a surfboard, and the captain peeking out of the back window.

Result

Through a combination of fun concept and high-quality digital imaging, this photo illustration won an Award of Special Recognition.
