CLEAN COAST

Alternative Spring Break

My Role

Project Director

Project Duration

One Week

Problem

Clean Coast brings together passionate ocean lovers and helps them contribute to a vision for trash-free seas. Although a wonderful organization, its image suffers through an outdated and tired brand. Our goal is to research the mission of the organization and create a strategy that will allow us to use our art and design skills to help them to reach future goals.

Approach

The goal of our “Trash to Treasure” team is to create unique works of art from the variety of refuse that we collected with the Clean Coast volunteers. These will be auctioned to help fund organizational activities.

The goal of our communications team was to update the original Clean Coast logo with a new and memorable brand mark.

Influenced by Clean Coast’s current logo, our first solution portrays an open and friendly community of volunteers with a vision for cleaner and healthier marine ecosystems. The second is of a Royal Tern, a common sight along the shores of the southern Atlantic Coast. This design conveys the beauty and habitat of this noble creature.

Both were applied to collateral pieces to help the client emotionally connect to each concept.

Our team also created a comic book style learning tool that Clean Coast volunteers could take into elementary school classrooms to teach children the importance of taking care of the natural environment. The Royal Tern became a friendly brand character known as ‘Captain.’

Result

Our team created original works of art that can be auctioned to help promote the mission of the organization and new designs that will be perceived by the public in a positive light and help Clean Coast to tell their story to community and recruit the next generation of volunteers.
